Stop Smoking


 

Being a smoker is a label, it is something you do, however it is not who you are. You were not born a smoker, in fact many smokers initially had to train very very hard to become a smoker. Overcoming the odd, often disliked harsh taste of cigarettes, training the lungs not to cough or choke on the inhalation of chemical smoke, and finally becoming used to the effects of nicotine on the body's physical and brain chemistry. We understand the time and effort that has gone into this addiction and often the reluctance and even sense of fear to give up this addictive habit (often mistakenly viewed as a friend/crutch or even a major pleasure). However, with encouragement and specific hypnotic techniques, the cycle of smoking can be broken very effectively. The actual nicotine substance only lasts in your body for 48 hours after you stop; Smokers often believe it remains for weeks or months, but you are effectively clean of the nicotine after only two days.

Stop SmokingAs with most things, you learnt to smoke, smoking those first few cigarettes was rarely enjoyable; we have to learn to accept the odd taste and the smoke polluting our lungs. Smokers are often surprised when asked to analyse their smoking patterns just how many of their daily cigarettes they actually did not enjoy at all. Then there are the other issues associated with smoking, the bad odours on clothing, the physical effects visibly yellow/brown teeth and ageing skin but also the non-visible major health consequences as well. 

In order to support the new non-smoking you, we use techniques to unlearn the habit, effectively breaking this learnt habit, to break the ritual of smoking on a daily basis. As a smoker you will have a few key cigarettes during the day that may create some enjoyment/relief (morning with a hot drink/after a meal/a drink out) but many other cigarettes are being smoked almost unnoticed, sort of automatically, with no enjoyment at all, just topping up the nicotine craving at great cost financially and ultimately physically. We fully understand this and our approach is designed to break the smoking habit effectively whilst encouraging a great sense of physical wellbeing and positive achievement.

The hypnotic approaches we use are based over two sessions. The first session is to spend time understanding you, your current smoking pattern and getting a general picture of the key cigarettes of your smoking week, chat through the process of stopping and together plan for the second session, which normally takes place within one week. Finally, in the first session, which lasts about one and a half hours, we will teach you key breathing techniques and you will experience a light enjoyable hypnotic relaxation for about twenty to thirty minutes to become used to relaxing and to build up the confidence and self-belief ready to finally quit smoking. With the first session you will receive a general meditation /relaxation CD which you can listen to regularly during the following week to gradually deepen your relaxation abilities.

In the second session we concentrate initially on removing the desire around the key habit cigarettes, change associations about smoking and use a number of supportive and encouraging methods to reinforce the positive changes you are making. After the second session you will receive a further CD specially prepared to support the new non smoking you.
